My creative process

Sonia's artistic process has evolved into something that is as much a spiritual endeavor. Besides her use of traditional drawing and painting techniques, she uses the creative process of mixed media as a form of journalizing her emotional and visceral experiences, the communion of past formal training and a vision to a more contemporary approach of her work allows her to express a rich and more complex and strong body of work. She uses, Charcoal, Acrylics, Silver leaf, metallic powders and everything that she considers the right medium to express her voice.

Hidalgo believes that, "Artists are successful to the extent with which they are in touch with their spiritual, emotional and mental intelligence. An artist should strive to broaden his/her perspective and develop depth of understanding about the things that he or she chooses to paint. In this way there can exist an emotional exchange of energies that combine to create a piece of art- a new entity altogether. When a painting can evoke emotion in the viewer, what the viewer is really experiencing is the intense creative energy that the artist put into the piece. This embodies the essence of transference. The artist's gift is to visually transfer their experience."
